What Our Students Say
"UCSD TRiO was the catalyst and my support system during this time of self-discovery. They educated me about what college is, the importance of education, and how I can take the steps necessary to achieve my goals."
- Andrew A.
"[TRIO is] the reason I have won many
scholarships, got accepted to six universities, guided me into my passionate major, taught me about FAFSA, helped me get into CSU EOP program, and taught me about college."

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who is eligible for TRiO?
A: Students who are first generation and/or low income by the federal government standards are eligible to participate in TRiO. To participate in Upward Bound Math and Science, students must also be US Citizens or Permanent Residents.
Q: How do I know if I’m first generation or low income?
A: Eligibility is determined once we receive your application.
Q: What else is taken to consideration in the application?
A: We review your transcript to ensure that you are college-bound (passing your courses, enrolled in A-G courses, etc.), and we conduct a short (30 minute) interview to learn more about your college goals, personal and professional motivations, and time commitment.
Q: How long am I enrolled in the program if I participate?
A: You are enrolled from the time you begin with us up until you graduate or leave your school. We keep track of your progress up to 6 years from the time you enroll.
Q: Can I participate in extracurriculars while I am part of TRIO?
A: Yes! Many of our students are ASB members, multi-sport athletes, taking dual enrollment classes, and involved in multiple clubs. Joining TRIO is meant to add to your college preparation work, not replace anything you are already doing.
Q: Can TRiO help me get scholarships?
A: Yes! We work very closely with our seniors beginning in the summer after their junior year in applying for scholarships, but prior to that, we also work with our students on financial literacy and understanding the FAFSA application.
Q: Do I have to attend every event that TRiO puts on?
A: We understand that there can be events that conflict with our programming, but we encourage all our students to participate in
