Collectively we serve over 875 students across 13 schools in San Diego County. Our Goals is to prepare students to successfully complete high schools, transition to the college of their choice and succeed in graduating with a 2-year, 4-year or vocational/technical degree. Trio program srvices are targeted to low income, first generations students who aspire to attend college immediately after high school graduation.

Upward Bound: Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.

Upward Bound Math Science:  The Upward Bound Math and Science program is designed to strengthen the math and science skills of participating students. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in math and science, and ultimately careers in the math and science profession.

Talent Search:  The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. About Us

What is TRIO?

The history of TRIO is progressive. It began with Upward Bound, which emerged out of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 in response to the administration's War on Poverty. In 1965, Talent Search, the second outreach program, was created as part of the Higher Education Act. In 1968, Student Support Services, which was originally known as Special Services for Disadvantaged Students, was authorized by the Higher Education Amendments and became the third in a series of educational opportunity programs. By the late 1960's, the term "TRIO" was coined to describe these federal programs.
